Fly Fishing in hot weather

The summer months offer a welcome seasonal challenge to the trout angler. Throughout June, July and August it can be difficult to catch Rainbow Trout due to the warmer water temperatures and the reduced oxygen levels. Sustained heat over a number of weeks will usually result in the fish comfortable swimming in deep, colder water forcing those fly fishing for Rainbow Trout to adopt a sinking line. On large waters the depth at which trout can be found is often surprising. A longer leader, slow retrieve and the discipline to regularly change flies in a bid to find the fishing fly to attract attention.
