Langley Dam

Langley Dam has grown to become one of the most popular fly fishing venues in the north east of England. Langley Dam is 8 miles west of Hexham, just off the A69 on the B6305. The 14 acre fishery offers variety from the boat or bank fishing, particularly if you take set of waders with you. The peaty water runs from the Northumbrian moorland and reaches a maximum depth of 10 feet. Small traditional fishing fly patterns and lures tend to do well. A Dawsons Olive or Cat’s Whisker can usually help you avoid blanking on a tough day.

Rainbow Trout and Blue Trout fish are stocked regularly from 2lb upwards. The fly fishing lodge is adjacent to the car park has tea and coffee making facilities plus tackle to buy or hire and a fine selection of North Country fishing flies. With only four boats booking is a must particularly at weekends. Telephone Langley Dam on (01434) 688846 for a great day fly fishing in beautiful surroundings.

A tip for you when fly fishing at Langley Dam… The water was once a course fishery, stocked with a variety of species including Carp. If you fish near the reeds at Langley, either from the boat or the bank you are likely to be excited by the site of apparently large Rainbow Trout breaking the surface in an almost ever present rise. This distracts many a fly fishing enthusiast, keen on landing a prize trout. It is more likely to be one of the few Carp that remain!

  1. On Sunday 16th March 2008 my friend and I had a great 8 hour session at Langley Dam. The weather was cold and windy but we still had a great day catching a brace a piece and each loosing one on the Viva and Cats Whisker respectively.

    What a nice venue!

  2. If you’re looking for a combined day of relaxation and excitement in tranquil surroundings, then look no further!…Langley Dam is hosted by a husband and wife team who make every visitor very welcome with sound, accurate advice and a more importantly a welcoming smile!…Having fished Northumberland for a number of years I can sincerely recommend this fishery which is steeped in history and surrounded by some of the most picturesque scenerary that blesses Northumberland .

  3. I fish the Langley Dam regularly along with other venues and have been fortunate to catch fish at the dam on most visits.
In early May 2008 I caught a 7lb rainbow which
is my heaviest rainbow ever. But I know that thier are 9lb plus awaiting to be caught.
    A great venue !!

  4. Tomorrow I am due to visit the dam for the first time, I drove past this morning and had a sneak peak and it looks brilliant.

I hope i manage to land something, I have stocked up on various flies and am planning to use a white whisker first followed by olive coloured flies and some hares ear, also might try the adams dry fly!

I will report back on friday!

    Heres hoping!

  5. Unfortunately didnt even get a touch!

My mate got two rainbows, about 2, 1/2 lb each one was a really fiesty fish.

one on a green lure fritz and one on a pheasant tail nymph.

Conditions seemed perfect but mist dropped just as fish started to become more active and it was silent on the lake.

Really good piece of water though and I am looking forward to getting back there asap!

  6. Went again on the saturday to no avail. conditions seemed perfect but no fish moving.

Going tonight hopefully as long as the water isnt too coloured!

Don’t know what to try tonight but i have got my lucky boxers on so that might help!

  7. If you want to fish somewhere where the flies are “naturals”, the fish fight hard, and you get fishing as it should be, go here!

  11. SUNDERLAND ANGLING SHOW
The first Sunderland Angling Show, which is being sponsored by Sunderland City Council, is planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday 15th, 16th and 17th April, 2011. The show will be open to the public and will feature Game, Coarse, Carp and Sea Angling. Also on display will be boats and kayaks.

As we have a meeting with Sunderland City Council on 7th December, I would very much appreciate if you could let us know if this will be of interest to your Company.

Prices to exhibitors have been kept to a minimum as, although a good attendance is expected from the North East, Midlands and Scotland, the numbers of visitors to the show are an unknown quantity – this being the first show of it’s kind in the North East of England.

The venue for the show is the Seaburn Centre, which is situated on the sea front at Seaburn and permission has been granted by the Sunderland City Council for casting demonstrations to be held on the beach just across the road. An area of the beach will be closed off for this purpose.

There are hundreds of free car park spaces and the area is well serviced by public transport. There are also numerous cafes and restaurants close to the Centre, as well as several hotels and B & B’s.

There is very good access for companies wishing to bring boats into the Centre, the entrance from the rear of the building being 13 ft x 13 ft.

Prices for exhibition spaces are for the three days (not per day). For spaces around the perimeter of the Centre, which are 10 ft deep x 12 ft wide the cost is £180. Areas 12 ft deep x 12 ft wide and also 10 ft deep x 14 ft wide will be £200. There are also a limited number of spaces 30 ft x 30 ft in the centre of the hall, which will be £400 for the three days. Prices include electricity and also tables and chairs.

Exhibitors will be able to set up on Thursday 14th and take down on Monday 18th.

The venue is about one mile from the Sunderland Marina and companies wishing to put boats into the marina will be able to make their own arrangements. About the same distance away is Roker beach, which is inside the harbour and Companies wishing to demonstrate kayaks will be able to do so there.

I hope that this is of interest to your Company and look forward to hearing from you.
